The cause of West Germany and East Germany is divided
Before Germany became a unitary state like today, one
the big country on the European continent was split into two parts,
West Germany and East Germany. Even the split of Germany has already taken place
during World War I. At that time, the end of World War I was marked
with the implementation of the Versailes Agreement. Under the agreement,
Germany must accept responsibility as the cause of war, wrong
others surrender part of their territory to neighboring countries or
free colonial countries, such as the Czechs and Poland. Then, at
in 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany over
overthrow the Republic of Wiemar which is considered to have embarrassed
nation after losing in World War I. During Hitler's leadership,
German military strength strengthened and he formed a group
called Nazi. But when Germany was led by Hitler once again Germany
must experience defeat during World War II.
Based on the Potsdam Conference on August 2, 1945, Germany
divided into two parts, the western region (Federal Republic of Germany) is controlled
United States, Britain and France, while the eastern region (Republic
German Democratic) controlled by the Soviet Union.
Then after that both parties agreed to form Germany
West and East Germany as separate countries that were independent in the year
1949. German Democratic Republic designation for East Germany
declared October 7, 1949. His first president was Walter Uricht
while the Federal Republic of Germany designates for West Germany
was declared May 23, 1949. His first Chancellor was Konrad Aedenauer.
These two countries embrace different politics and economics. West Germany
adheres to politics and economics. Liberals who are oriented to countries
west, while East Germany embraced Socialist Politics and Economy which oriented to the Soviet Union. The symbol of the separation of these two countries is
Berlin Wall. This wall was established on August 13, 1961
East Germany's communist government under the leadership of Walter Ulbricht
because West Berlin is a 'hole' in their country. Between years
1949 to 1961 more than 2 million East Germans
fled through Berlin. This made East Germany's economy become
oversized, because most young people are running away
self. Then in secret and suddenly this wall was built. Berlin Wall
who locked West Berlin and cut the city right in the middle,
became the most famous symbol of the Cold War. Many western dignitaries,
especially the president of the United States who visited this wall for
curse it. As long as the Berlin Wall stood, there were around 5,000 people
managed to escape. The number of people killed by trying to escape,
until now it's still a debate. According to Alexandra Hildebrandt,
Charlie Checkpoint Museum Director, estimated number of people
killed were more than 200 people. A historic group at the Center for
Contemporary Historical Research (ZZF) at Potsdam confirms
that there were 136 people killed. Previously, what was officially recorded was
98 people killed. This barrier wall is also accompanied by
the establishment of guard towers built along this wall, too
the establishment of a restricted area, which was filled with mines. East Germany
stated that this wall was built to protect its citizens
from fascist elements, so they can form a government
communists in East Germany. Even so it turns out this wall is used for
prevent the greater flight of East Berliners into Berlin
West, which is in West Germany. East Germany starts
build the Berlin Wall between East and West Berlin and some
other barriers around West Berlin. East Germany also put down
a tank at Checkpoint Charlie on October 27, 1961. West Berlin and
East Berlin is currently completely separate. President of J.F Kennedy in the year
1963 came and gave a speech on the side of this wall with its sentence
famous: "Ich bin ein Berliner. Tensions between the two culminated when the first West German Chancellor" Konrad Adeneur "claimed
that Germany is a nation and it recognizes its political parties more
than his government.
2.2 Unification of West Germany and East Germany
After Germany is divided both have a pattern of development
different, West Germany was under capitalist American influence
while East Germany itself is socialist-communist. Although
the two neighbors are only separated by the Berlin wall but the relationship
both are always accompanied by tension because of the population living in Berlin
Timur cannot connect with his brother who lives in Berlin
West because it is separated by the Berlin wall.
